What were you doing ten years ago?
I was just starting my second semester of my second year in law school. I was very excited because I had just started a two-semester criminal law clinic, in which I would actually get to prosecute and defend criminal cases (prosecution one semester, defend the second semester). I was living in a very cheap but desirable apartment building for deserving women graduate students. It was subsidized by my university's association of women graduate school alumnae. Living there included strict rules against allowing male guests beyond the building's foyer. The residents also had lunch each year with the elderly and very proper members of the association. I tried to refrain from swearing during that lunch.
What were you doing one year ago?
I was working at a different law firm where I concentrated on defending companies in employment-related lawsuits, including discrimination and harassment lawsuits (race, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, etc.), lawsuits related to non-compete agreements, and claims involving breaches of employment contracts. I don't practice that kind of law anymore for the most part. And no, I don't see any conflict between my feminist principles and defending companies in discrimination suits. I fully support the anti-discrimination laws, but that doesn't mean that every suit has merit or that companies don't deserve a good defense. Also a company's attorney can do a lot to help change practices and procedures to make them more fair.
Five snacks you enjoy
Cape Cod chips
Carrots dipped in Grey Poupon mustard, with a diet coke
CHEESE!!!
Grapes
Crackers with herring and sour cream sauce (my annual New Year's treat)
Five songs to which you know all the lyrics
Les Miserables -- the whole musical (that should actually cover it, but I'll keep going)
Jesus Christ Superstar -- the whole musical
The Sounds of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel
Numerous Christmas carols
The Star Spangled Banner
(Gosh, I've just confessed my dorkiness to the whole internet universe)
Five things you would do if you were a millionaire:
Pay off my student loans and my husband's
Get a few new suits at Anne Taylor, Talbots, and (blush) Petite Sophisticate (I know it sounds dorky but they have really good, professional clothes for the 5'4" and under set. When I buy stuff there, I have to resist the temptation to run around saying, "I'm a petite sophisticate!")
Get our house built
Buy some fabulous gift for my husband, not sure what he would want though
Take my mother on a Norwegian cruise
(I hope that I haven't overspent. A million dollars isn't actually that much anymore.)
Five Bad Habits
Blogging too much
Drinking too much Diet Coke
Putting off unpleasant phone calls
Snacking too much when I'm upset or stressed
Not keeping track of where I put my keys
Five things you like doing
Blogging
Reading and eating at the same time
Watching movies. Better yet, watching two or three movies back-to-back in the movie theater
Exercising
Arguing
Five things you would never wear again
A halter top
My grandfather's polyester polkadotted Izod shirt (I used to think it was so cool.)
Mary Janes
The navy dress slacks I wore from age 16 to age 33 before they finally spontaneously combusted
Penny Loafers with tassels
Five Favorite Toys
Ti-Vo
Corgi's pink squeaky ball
Blog
Kayak I'm hoping to buy one day
Ipod
That's a lot of musicals! (Dork...) ;-)

PS - perhaps not such a dork. I discovered whilst washing up I know most of the words to 'Sandy' from Annie. Know the one I mean?

Also a company's attorney can do a lot to help change practices and procedures to make them more fair.
Plus, they get paid better than the plaintiff's lawyers. ;)

Too true-- I've written a prior self-serving post about how getting rich is a feminist act!
